Surgery List

Sorry for the delay in updating about our phone conference...James and I have been praying and seeking the Lord's face with all the things that were discussed...Our conference call with Boston this past Thursday lasted for over an hour. We spoke to head Neurosurgeon of Children's Hospital Boston, Dr. Warf...It was as if we re-lived the past 2 1/2 years of Jaden's life all over again as we started from day 1 of his sweet little life and told about every detail to the fullest to help this Dr. who has never met us, understand...He interrupted James and I to tell us that he can't begin to imagine everything we have been through and that after reviewing all of Jaden's records, especially all his images (MRI's, Head CT's, Shunt Series, and X-rays) all 8 CD's, that it has been a hard road of setback, after setback, after setback. He wanted us to describe Jaden to him...He was in AWE to find out that he's a super happy little guy, full of life and smiles as James described him...We shared with him Jaden seems as if he wants to go and do it's just as if something is keeping him from progressing...The Surgeon made the comment that the cyst is engorged around the brain stem and it has already deformed the brain, he went on to say, this is a DIFFICULT CASE. This being the only thing that truly stands out from our whole phone conversation. We re-play that over and over again in our minds. This is what's keeping Jaden from progressing and he totally agreed with our Neurosurgeon from Louisville about how we should approach the cyst. The side path is only traveled in adults, but it's the only way that leads us to the top part of the cyst. Our only HOPE is that when they get to the top of the cyst it will be an open pathway that is like a water balloon consistency that can be easily cut into and a big enough whole that can be bored out...This will allow the cyst to drain freely into the water spaces of the brain and Jaden will not be reluctant upon that CP shunt that's in place. He shared with us that he personally knows our Surgeon who has been with us from Day 4 of Jaden's life when the blood was first found in his brain. He told us that he's a smart man, full of knowledge and that we are in great hands. We know that we truly have the greatest of the greatest physicians that being our great God that can just even think upon this cyst in Jaden's brain and it can be completely healed. But a tremendous load has been lifted from us knowing that both of these great Neurosurgeons is on the exact same page when it comes to our baby's Brain. And if for some unknown reason, God forbid that something should happen to Jaden we will not have to live with the rest of our lives wondering WHY, WHY didn't we let someone else re-view Jaden's case. We are at peace knowing that the cyst that surrounds the front of Jaden's brain stem is one of a kind and it poses major life threating risks and have been told by 2 different doctors that if left untreated could possibly lead to regression and death. We have been given a plan for the cyst and it's outcome and prognosis is less than 50% chance of working and the risks of the surgery its self could possibly lead to death. We have prayed for the Lord to give that perfect plan to our surgeon and we believe that this is it, we are at peace knowing that both doctors have shared this is all we have left to do for the cyst and we have to give him a chance. We are praying for that perfect miracle, the Lord to make this upcoming surgery a success, given that both these doctors are so uncertain that it will help. We are confident that the Lord will intervene and will allow the 4th attempt to this cyst, to work and will allow some relief to Jaden's brain stem and spinal cord. Relief to his little body that's all that has ever known is pain.

After our phone conference with Boston, I called Jaden's Neuro Team up in Louisville to share with them everything we talked about and the nurses there told us they had been dying to call us to find out what was said and they are so relieved, we are so relieved that both surgeons feel the same way and that we have peace about what's to come. We are so thankful that we will still be able to be close to home and won't have to travel to Boston and that our 2nd Family, all of Kosair will be able to help us get through surgery #17,
where Jaden is a well-know little guy there on Surgery Floor and in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.

He has been placed on the Surgery List at Kosair Children's Hospital and we are hoping to hear from them this week with a date. We are praying the sooner the better so Jaden will not be too weak for the up-coming Holidays, especially Christmas. Hoping that he will feel like a brand new boy if we can get to the cyst and it get completely drained off. Help us pray as we wait for a surgery date,
 A MIRACLE...

  1. I am sure you are able to find some direction now that both doctors agree on Jaden's next step. My, how tough this must be for a mother full of emotions, faith and hope for her sweet boy. I am sure you often feel alone in this big world but I pray that you feel the support from our Father and from friends miles away. Jaden holds such a special place in my heart and so many others. Praying over this next step.
